KIDS WORLD DAYCARE AND PRESCHOOL
Kids World Daycare and Preschool is a 4 Star early care and education center located in Centerville, Iowa. The center opened in 1991. In its 27 years of operation, the center has become a trusted center for developmentally appropriate practices. The center is licensed for 82 children and serves children between the ages of 6 weeks to 12 years of age. We currently have 104 children enrolled.
In addition, the Centerville Community School Districts contracts with Kids World to provide preschool programming for 20 four-year-old children as part of Iowa’s Statewide Voluntary Preschool Program.
Children in the program are able to attend four days a week from 8 am – 3 pm tuition free. The center also has a three-year-old preschool program and before and after school care. Scholarships for the three-year-old preschool are available thanks to funding from the 4 Counties For Kids Board. Kids World is a recognized leader in southeast Iowa in both developmentally appropriate practices, including the Project Approach. In addition, the Center has implemented Program-Wide PBIS.

DAVIS CO. COMMUNITY SCHOOLS – STATE WIDE VOLUNTARY PRESCHOOL PROGRAM (SWVPP)
The Davis County Community Schools PK program consists of five half-day sessions for children that have turned four years old by September 15. These sessions follow SWVPP guidelines and teachers assess student’s progress using GOLD standards. The three classrooms are staffed by one highly qualified teacher and one associate with a maximum capacity of eighteen students. Three-year-old students with identified disabilities are accepted and their program is driven by their individualized educational plan. The Davis County Community Schools partners with Head Start to provide additional opportunities for three-year-old children in the Davis County community.

Head Start meets the child’s total needs: educational, health, nutrition, mental health, and dental health. Services to Head Start children include daily large and small group activities, field trips, daily outdoor play, meals and snacks, health screening, and transportation.
The Sieda Head Start program operates from August to May, but application for the program are taken at any time. Children who are three or four years old by September 15 of the program year are eligible for the program, although priority is given to three-year old children.

Transportation continues to be a challenge for our service area. Surveys returned by our Head Start families indicate transportation is an issue when not available through our program. Iowa Child Care Resource and Referral provides resources, education and advocacy to support quality child care. We are a state-wide organization, and received ECI funds from 4 Counties For Kids ECI Board locally to serve Appanoose, Davis, Lucas and Monroe counties.
We serve Families by providing a FREE referral to child care in your area, average costs of child care by type of care, tips on how to choose quality care, ideas how to start a positive partnership with providers, and information on financial assistance programs. FAMILY SUPPORT – HOME VISITATION
SCICAP-PARENTS AS TEACHERS
South Central Iowa Community Action Program (SCICAP) Parents as Teachers (PAT) is funded by Early Childhood Iowa 4 Counties For Kids serving Monroe, Lucas, Appanoose, and Davis Counties. Parents as Teachers is an in-home visitation program for parents with children ages prenatal through five years. The PAT program provides parents with knowledge of child development and parenting support, provide early detection of developmental delays and health issues, prevents child abuse and neglect, and increases children’s school readiness. The PAT model includes one-on-one home visits, monthly group meetings, developmental screenings, and resources network for families.
PAT children at age 3 are significantly more advanced in language, social development, problem solving and other cognitive abilities than comparison children. They are also known to score higher on kindergarten readiness tests and on standardized measures of achievement in early grades. PAT parents are more involved in their children’s schooling and are more confident in their parenting role as well as more likely to read more to their children.

NEST- Monroe County
The SCICAP NEST program is a group-based parent education and support program open to all families in Appanoose, Davis, Lucas, and Monroe Counties, that have a child aged prenatal-Kindergarten entry. The NEST program believes that every child, beginning at birth will be healthy and successfully reach their full potential. We believe that prenatal care and early childhood education are the most important factors in ensuring healthy children and families. The NEST program operates through the financial support of 4 Counties For Kids ECI Area, Iowa DHS ADM Decat Project, PCAI ICAPP funding, and by donations from the communities.
This free program offers weekly classes that are centered around parenting and family topics such as: child development, stress management, positive parenting skills, nurturing and attachment, positive relationships, discipline, nutrition, and much more. Research and Evidence-Based curriculum is used during the classes to ensure that the highest quality information is being taught. The NEST program also offers incentives to all participating families. NEST families earn points by attending classes and making healthy choices. The points spend like money in the NEST store where items such as diapers, wipes, soap, toothpaste, breastfeeding supplies, educational toys, and books can be purchased.

CHILD CARE QUALITY IMPROVEMENT
CHILDCARE NURSE CONSULTANT (CCNC)
American Home Finding Association CCNC (Appanoose, Davis and Monroe County CCNC)
AHFA will provide a specially trained, licensed Child Care Nurse Consultant (CCNC) to promote Child Care Quality Improvement in Appanoose, Davis, and Monroe Counties. The Child Care Nurse Consulting is an indirect program that fosters safe and healthy child care environments. The overall strategy for the CCNC is to provide child care providers with on-site assistance that includes needed training and technical support to improve the safety and quality of the learning environment. Activities to support this strategy include the following:
- Routinely visiting centers and child development homes
- Tracking of providers participating in QRS and IQ4K rating systems
- Monitoring and supporting special health care needs of children in care
- Providing approved Healthy Child Care Iowa training to providers
- Providing instruction in diapering skills, including an assessment of equipment and supplies for diapering stations, as well as making recommendations to the center for improvements to prevent the spread of diarrheal illnesses
- Evaluating and promoting safe sleep policies, recommending ways to position cribs so infants are always safely monitored to reduce the incidence of sudden unexpected infant death
- Performing immunization reviews of children less than two years of age who are in care to ensure IDPH immunization compliance and prevent communicable childhood disease
- Providing medication administration skills competency evaluation to child care providers in effort to prevent medication errors in child care settings
- Providing health and safety checklists to child care providers
- Assisting providers to make accommodations for children with special healthcare needs
- Providing handwashing and cover your cough and sneezes program to all child care providers
